#1 Driver Tip for Longer & Straighter Drives

This is the best tip for hitting longer and straighter drives. It's easy and will help you immediately.

Focus On The Release

The number one killer of the driver swing is not releasing the club. Pros are not holding off the release especially with the driver.

You'll gain clubhead speed and square the clubface.

**Make sure to keep your head behind the ball during the release.**

Hit Driver Straight & Long by Releasing the Club

0:00

hi everyone so today we're going to look

0:01

at the release with the driver

0:04

i've seen a lot of players that just

0:06

struggle to get

0:07

nice and cleanly through to the finish

0:09

with this club because

0:11

the delivery characteristics of an iron

0:13

driver different i would stick with what

0:15

we go over today with the driver

0:17

so really simply one thing that i see

0:20

in the release pattern of really good

0:23

drivers

0:24

is that they get that club really nice

0:27

and extended towards a target if you

0:28

look at the club head

0:30

it's pretty much vertical in the release

0:33

there

0:34

from a arm standpoint left arm i think

0:37

is a great reference here

0:38

you'll see it's slowly folding and the

0:41

elbow is pointed down

0:43

so one thing that i see with the left

0:44

elbow with a number of amateurs

0:47

and just players that struggle to drive

0:48

it well is if i get in here

0:50

they get a little too much ahead of the

0:53

ball

0:54

and then from there they're trying to

0:55

shallow with the elbow working

0:57

up and the only issue with that is if

1:00

you look at the face

1:01

it's wide open so you're going to most

1:03

likely get a steep angle of attack

1:05

and face is too much open going to

1:07

really struggle to get that face

1:09

to square up like we see in those good

1:11

drivers so

1:13

really simple feel that you can work on

1:16

with this

1:18

is to once you set up

1:23

to work down into the downswing getting

1:26

yourself in a nice delivery position

1:27

where that toe is

1:28

um i'm gonna pretty much face up and

1:31

then just allow

1:33

the feeling of the cup head to release

1:36

so that you're squaring it and then get

1:38

the face to match up on the way

1:40

through so this is an intuitive way to

1:43

calm the body stuff down allow the body

1:45

to respond a bit more to the head

1:47

okay so one more time it's gonna make

1:50

sure i'm set up nice and square

1:54

take it back into a good delivery

1:57

position

1:58

where butter the club is pointing

2:00

towards the target

2:02

toe is in the air and then just very

2:04

intuitively

2:06

get the get the cub into a nice impact

2:08

position i don't have too much shaft

2:10

lean here

2:11

and then on the other side work it

2:14

through on the way through getting that

2:15

nice extension as well pushing off

2:18

that trail side so really simple

2:21

intuitive

2:22

feel just to help you to calm the body

2:25

and respond

2:25

a bit more to the face with the driver

Hitting Driver Straight & Long Recap

  • Good drivers get the club head extended towards the target for a clean finish.
  • When releasing the arm, the elbow should be pointed down and the left arm should be used as a reference.
  • Amateur golfers often get too far ahead of the ball and try to shallow out with their elbow, which can cause issues with the face.
  • Set up to get into a delivery position, allowing the clubhead to release for a square face and good drive.
  • Keep your head behind the ball.
Release the clubhead for longer and straighter drives.

Start Hitting Longer and Straighter Drives Today

The great thing about this tip is you can start doing this immediately.

By focusing on the clubhead instead of body movements your body will adapt to get in the correct position.

Many amateur golfers do not release the club enough and this can make an immediate impact on your golf swing.
